WELCOME TO PETER HERDIC HOUSE

Gourmet Dining

The Peter Herdic House

The Peter Herdic House is a fine-dining restaurant situated in an elegant Italianate mansion on Williamsport, Pennsylvania’s Millionaires Row. We specialize in serving sustainable, locally-grown produce and meats, in the picturesque environs of a beautifully restored Victorian mansion. The restaurant serves dinner Wednesday-Saturday beginning at 5 p.m., and opens for private events any day of the week. Lunch is served during December. For reservations: 570-322-0165.

The Peter Herdic Inn, our sister property, is an elegant bed and breakfast in Williamsport, adjacent to the restaurant, which hosts guests 7 days a week. Call 570-360-0411 or email info@herdichouse.com to make a booking.

Weekly Updates

Wednesday Blue Plate
A lovely late winter Wednesday, if the groundhog is to be believed, and Andrew (our sweet, level-headed chef) has requested one last round of chicken and biscuits to round out the winter season…and who could object to Landis Farm chicken and shiitake mushroom gravy with mashed potatoes and thyme biscuits to close out a chill but sunny Wednesday? No one, as it turns out! It’s $15 at the House and $17 to go (but our number of to-go orders is often very limited!) We’ll hope to see you out!

Thursday $9 Craft Cocktail & Happy Hour Specials
And on Thursday, our Happy Hours continue, with $1 off beer and $2 off wines by the glass from 5-7 pm, at the bar. This week’s craft cocktail will be a sour cherry gin fizz (they were delicious last week, and Liz would like another), and our burger this week has a twist: stop by for a sockeye salmon burger with Latin spices, cumin-grilled onion and avocado crema…

Friday Features

“He that plants trees, loves others beside himself.”—Thomas Fuller

In an average Herdic email (as our most eager readers may have noticed), we often find inspiration in the tiniest shred of something that comes to our attention that very morning, spouting off hundreds of words on a topic as off-topic as, say, sunshine. 😉 But this week’s subject matter was forced upon us, all unwilling, yet here it is: in this email, our unfortunate task is to write a requiem for a great friend, a gentle presence and a beloved beauty—one of two tall, slender. yet majestic pin oaks that has stood proudly for more than 100 years in our front yard. Who knows who might have planted our two statuesque oaks out front, and what fate they pictured for them when they dug a hole, spread their roots and watered them to encourage their success? Almost certainly, they had no picture of a future more than 100 years ahead, when the trees would stand, not in front of a private home, but in front of a beautiful restaurant, when the street would be paved instead of bricked, and lined with sleek, fast automobiles that the past could never have imagined.

It was probably more than a decade ago that John Hopkins of Susquehanna Tree Care mentioned that our eastern street tree was on the decline, and we’ve watched it anxiously since, dreading the day when we’d have to say goodbye to a good friend and figure out how to fill a gaping, 100-year-hole in our streetfront. But that day has come. Earlier this morning, a skilled crew from the City’s Streets and Parks department was out front, slowly taking our oak down, and, though we couldn’t bear to watch, the sounds of sawing were hard to miss.

If you make it in for dinner tonight or anytime in the near future, prepare yourselves for a change out front. We’ll replace our oak with a new street tree sometime very soon, but more than a century of growth can’t be instantly replicated (nor should it be) and we’ll miss our twin oak, and the food it provided for the prolific squirrels out there on Fourth St.—and we’re sure its oak companion will be sad without the company as well. But waste not, want not, as they say—stay tuned for details on some oak treasures that we’ll be making to celebrate a bit of the Herdic House landscape that was nearly as old as our House is, and to celebrate our 40th anniversary as well!

In other news, we’ve been getting asked for weeks now for details on our Valentine’s menu for the Valentine’s week that is rapidly approaching—and here it is! We’ll be serving our Valentine’s specials (possibly with some minor tweaks) on February 10 (this Saturday!) as well as February 14-16. But please know that we’re almost completely booked on Valentine’s Day proper—only a few tables at 4:00 pm and 8:30-9:00 pm remain…

French Kiss: fresh pineapple juice, fresh lime, chambord, sparkling Cava, rose petal rim

Don’t Tell Mama: Mount Gay rum, grand marnier, fresh lime, fresh mint and local blueberry purée

Shrimp, lobster and champagne bisque, with saffron-chipotle crackers

Double creme brie baked in housemade puff pastry with local blueberries, served with raspberry-rose petal jam and candied pistachio

Grilled 10 oz. Open Prairie delmonico, finished with thyme beurre rouge and a lump crabmeat and leek mousse, and served with truffled mashed potatoes

Treats for your sweet: beet-red velvet cheesecake with white chocolate mousse, honeyed hazelnuts and raspberry coulis

And then we’ll interrupt our March guest cheffin’ frenzy to bring you another great annual event: Celebrity Waiter Night! Come clown around with some of our favorite local celebrities as they shamelessly raise money for a great local cause: the Northcentral Pennsylvania Conservancy!

Thursday, March 28

Postponed! Sorry for the date change, but we’ll be celebrating a last supper of sorts ourselves on Maundy Thursday with a duck-fat-filled finale as we commemorate the delicious ducks we’ve purchased from Country Homestead Acres in Mifflinburg by making the most of even their fat—blowing it all on one epic night of duck deliciousness, with five (give or take) courses of duck-inflected dishes. Stay tuned for more details…

Upcoming Events

Wednesday Blue Plate
And we’re back! It’s a hiatus that simultaneously flew by, and yet also feels like forever, but it’s finally over, and we’ll reopen for business today at 5:00, with a reasonably healthy Blue Plate to start off 2024: Pasta by Deb’s organic fettuccine tossed with shards of wild-caught salmon, asparagus and a lemon-dill cream. It’s $15 at the House and $17 to go (but our number of to-go orders is often very limited!) We’ll hope to see you out tonight!

Thursday $9 Craft Cocktail & Happy Hour Specials
Thursdays, our Happy Hours continue, with $1 off beer and $2 off wines by the glass from 5-7 pm at the bar. This week’s craft cocktail will be a poached pear margarita, and our burgers are back in 2024, with a Korean-barbecued 8 oz patty from Misty Mountain Farm with scallion-sweet pepper slaw and sriracha aioli…

Friday Features

We are reopening with an especially big bang this week, as we leap into a fresh year with a fresh menu idea this Friday night: we’ll be hosting the fascinating Kyle, from Ten Mile Mushrooms, and mixing up a bunch of delectable mushroom dishes with Ten Mile’s excellent and healthful mushrooms—everything from cocktails with enlightening mushroom tinctures, to brain boosting dishes full of thought-healthy ingredients.

Kyle will be here to help explain the benefits of each mushroom variety (we mainly focus on the texture and flavor, naturally, and it was months before Liz realized—thanks to a tip from Jim Cummings—that all of these mushrooms were much more than just yummy ingredients) and he’ll also have some of Ten Mile’s healthful products for sale—mushroom tinctures, grow kits, etc.

Stop in for a bite or a cordycep cocktail this Friday and see what all the fuss is all about, as we cook these mushrooms into delicious dishes that are so much more than just another menu item…

“Clarified” old-fashioned, with Bulleit bourbon, black walnut bitters, cordyceps tincture and apricot-muddled amaretto cherries

Double oyster stew, with oysters (from the ocean), spinach, bacon and blue oyster mushrooms, simmered with cream, leeks and oyster broth

Chanterelle and black king mushroom tart, with thyme, chèvre, and bitter arugula to accent

Seared wild-caught sockeye salmon, served over a calypso bean, lion’s mane mushroom and sweet potato ragout, finished with a lemony avocado and roasted pepper salsa—a brain booster for sure!

Dark chocolate and reishi pots de creme accented with meringue mushrooms and frangelico whipped cream

It’s good to be back!

Thursday, February 29
Any day that only comes once every four years deserves a party, right? So for 2024’s Leap Year, we’ve decided to close for regular dining and host a prix-fixe dinner centered around no, not frogs (give their poor legs a break!) but rather duck…or, more specifically, duck fat. That’s right, we’ve got a treasure trove of duck fat from Country Homestead Acres in Mifflinburg, and we’re blowing it all on one epic night of duck deliciousness, with five (give or take) courses of duck-inflected dishes. “We had family Christmas gathering and we were able to have the whole house to ourselves. The food was so good, the service was great, and the decorations/ambiance was perfect for Christmas. It’s a beautiful old Victorian house and it was decorated so beautifully. We will definitely be going back here again. Every detail was attended to.”

A Gem!
“Williamsport lacks “big city” fine dining establishments. The Peter Herdic House however, tries to make up for this deficiency, and succeeds on every level. A great chef who uses the “farm to table” philosophy to his advantage, a very good bar and an excellent wine list. Pricey by local standards, but well worth it!”
