This Week at the Herdic House
We’re hearing it every day, at the grocery store, at the coffee shop, while picking up kids at school in a downpour, with winds so gusty as to render an umbrella useless—”this weather is crazy!” and folks, you’re not wrong. Even by March’s bipolar standards, this is some wild weather, soaring to 75 before crashing to 25, all while attempting to blow our houses down. But our big ol’ House isn’t about to blow over anytime soon! So come relax by our fire and enjoy a Blue Plate special this evening that’s filling, comforting and oddly healthy: shepherd’s pie with Misty Mountain ground lamb, carrots and peas, topped with kale colcannon. The Blue Plate, as always, is $18 at our House and $20 to go. And the rest of our specials this evening will continue in a slightly Irish vein (since we didn’t get to cook for St. Paddy’s yesterday)—a potato, leek and bacon soup; a kale, apple and cheddar salad; and a chocolate stout cake with bailey’s icing, because, well, why not?
Come join us for our Thursday happy hours at the bar, from 5-7 pm, with $1 off all beers and $2 off wines by the glass. Plus we’ll be serving a new Thursday night feature, by request: a Misty Mountain Farm burger with gruyere, sautéed mushrooms and caramelized onions, served in the garden, complete with housemade chips (the March potatoes aren’t making great fries) and a pickle. Wash it down with a cold New Trail beer, follow it with a scoop of our newest featured ice cream (sour cherry amaretto with brownie and chocolate chips), and you’ve got a Thursday evening done right…
And then the true excitement of this week will be on Friday evening, when Marleni Feinstein reappears in our kitchen to direct us Herdic cooks in preparing foods nearly entirely foreign to us, in ways that are also pretty foreign to us. (How lucky are we to have such a great cook from such a different culinary background who’ll come in and school us like this?) Her menu is truly delicious this year, deceptively simple, yet very exciting, and we highly recommend stopping down to check it out. Plus, did we mention that we’re donating the profits to Thrive International Programs, to support their work? You should definitely call down and make a reservation for this excellent night of delicious food…
P.S. Now is also a great time to point out a cool happening coming up next Friday evening: Celebrity Waiter Night to benefit the Northcentral PA Conservancy! If you haven’t already got a reservation, please call down to book a table—or feel free to drop in for drinks at the bar with celebrity ‘tender Tony Nardi and support the NCPA Conservancy that way too. It’s a terrific night, with some excellent local celebrity servers…and we’re excited to host the fun yet again!
