This Week at the Herdic House
Who are we to miss out on a little summer vacation? This past weekend, Liz and the kids made a brief sprint up to Cape Cod at the invite of some friends, where they’ve spent a few lovely, salty, windswept days discovering new beaches, new trails, new restaurants, new playgrounds (like the one the kids are climbing above), before they head back to our fair state of PA today. Summer goes by too fast, doesn’t it? But at least there’s still a whole Little League World Series to be played before school starts up. Here’s to 10 more days of summer vacation!
And tonight, we’ll hail summer with a classic Blue Plate for the season: Deb’s organic fettuccine tossed with Landis chicken, roasted tomatoes, sweet corn and cream. What a house favorite! The Blue Plate, as always, is $18 at our House and $20 to go, and you can reach us at 570-322-0165 to book a table! Plus, we’ll have chilled cucumber soup with sungold salsa and a white peach, Gorgonzola and toasted almond salad…
Come join us for our Thursday happy hours at the bar, from 5-7 pm, with $1 off all beers and $2 off wines by the glass. In the kitchen, we’ll be making grilled Misty Mountain sausage and sweet pepper sandwiches (it is baseball season after all), served with fresh cut fries…
And on Friday, Helmrich’s has told us they’ll finally be getting some tasty softshell crabs in for the season. We’re waiting until we actually have the crabs in house to make any promises on a menu, but stay tuned on Facebook as we work on our Friday features once we see what crispy crustacean treats this weekend might hold. We’re hoping against hope for some delicious cornmeal crusted softies with chili butter and succotash…but we don’t want to jinx ourselves.
But what is currently true for this weekend is that we still have a few tables available for our Victorian Garden Tea on Saturday afternoon—which is usually full to the rafters by this time! We have spots available at both 1:00 and 2:30 pm, with a $37 prix fixe menu featuring 5 different tea sandwiches and savories (6 pieces total) and 5 different tea cakes and petit fours, as well as a selection of different teas for brewing. (More potent beverages will also be available for purchase for those who like a little tipple in the afternoon.)
If a spot of tea sounds like just what your Saturday needs, give us a call at (570)322-0165, send a text to (570)326-0411 or book online. We’re not sure how long these seats will be available, but we’ll do our best to squeeze everybody in. Among the treats we’ll be serving: for savories—chicken salad sandwiches with raspberry butter; brie, roasted pepper and tapenade canapes; house-smoked salmon mousse with cucumber and pumpernickel, deviled farm eggs with gorgonzola and bacon; and roasted summer veggie and goat cheese stuffed mushrooms; for sweets—zucchini and hazelnut cupcakes with cream cheese frosting; brown butter cupcakes with blackberry buttercream; chocolate-chambord petit fours; fresh peach scones with strawberry butter; and classic, chocolate-glazed cream puffs…
