This Week at the Herdic House

Not to get ahead of things, since the vernal equinox isn’t actually until Friday, but we’re beginning to get the sense that spring has sprung—aren’t you? We spotted our first robin a few weeks ago, and our first crocuses and snowdrops this past week too (not to mention the gorgeous dwarf irises that surprised Liz in her yard a few days ago). Now the daffodils are near to popping, and we’re realizing that it’s just about time to go looking for wild leeks…this season happened fast!

We’re featuring something light and simple this evening for the Blue Plate, since it seems to be the weather for it: Hunter’s chicken breast piccata, served over garlicky organic fettuccine with artichoke hearts. It’s $18 at our House, and $20 to go, like always—but, per usual, our number of to-go orders will be very limited. We’ll hope to see you out tonight! And we should mention that our soup tonight is light as well: a chickpea and spring greens soup finished with orecchiette and parmesan… Come join us for our Thursday happy hours at the bar, from 5-7 pm, with $1 off all beers and $2 off wines by the glass. Plus our Thursday night feature that pretends to be healthy, all while loaded with the tangy umami of ranch dressing: house favorite Herdic Pittsburgh salad, this week served with grilled tenderloin tips, fresh-cut fries, grated cheddar and parmesan ranch. Plus, Hannah will be mixing up Crocus cocktails, with gin, absinthe and creme de violette… It’s here! Not just the first day of spring, but also the one night of the year when we give up the reins in the front of the house and pure madcap mayhem ensues—Celebrity Waiter Night with the Northcentral Pennsylvania Conservancy! Stop in to visit us this Friday night, March 20, when we’ll be assisted by local celebrities both waiting tables and tending bar, as they work to earn “tips” that all go directly to the NCPC.

Our visiting celebrities for the evening include: Dr. Zachary Ritter, Dr. Michael Reed, Jordan Sheffer, Patty Confer, Peachie O’Connor, Mark Shuman and Tony Nardi, and hail from throughout our Williamsport community. Stop in to watch them hustle, give them a hard time, grab a drink—whatever floats your boat—but make sure you throw a generous “tip” into the jar for the Conservancy. And please note: our dining room is completely booked until about 8:30 in the evening, but we’re encouraging everyone to stop down to the bar (where Tony Nardi of Fish Real Estate will be slinging drinks with Hannah) if you’d like to join the fun and make a contribution. Donations of $100 or more will get you a $10 Herdic gift card to use at your next visit…
And we don’t want to miss a chance to mention our other upcoming guest chefs and other guest appearances:

  • Marleni Feinstein with recipes of Singapore on March 28
  • Artist Laurel Gauthe on April’s First Friday, April 4
  • and Kashfiah Fatema with recipes of Bangladesh and the Middle East on April 11

Keep an eye on our Facebook page for menus!
