This Week at the Herdic House

Give us just a couple of warm days around the Herdic House, and you can spot Liz out back poking around in the soil, looking for signs of life in our mint patch (no mint yet, but the oregano is looking good!) Match that warmth with streaming sunlight for a few afternoons, and we’ll up and decide it’s time for fish tacos for a Blue Plate special…as we’ve done today. Join us tonight for Korean barbecued haddock tacos, with crisp tamari-lime slaw, kimchi, roasted sweet potato agrodolce and sriracha aioli. The Blue Plate, as always, is $18 at our House and $20 to go. And the rest of our features this evening are simpler fare: a tomato-harissa soup with saffron cream and parmesan croutons and a grilled asparagus and spinach salad with creamy lemon dressing..

Come join us for our Thursday happy hours at the bar, from 5-7 pm, with $1 off all beers and $2 off wines by the glass. Plus we’ll be serving a new Thursday night feature: a Misty Mountain Farm burger with cheddar, bacon and peach barbecue sauce, complete with housemade sweet potato chips and a pickle. Mint juleps at the bar should make a great pairing, for a lovely evening…

Which brings us to the wild and crazy Friday evening that we’ll be having here at the Herdic, as the Northcentral PA Conservancy once again does a front of house takeover, and we host Celebrity Waiter Night! We’re booked to the rafters, as usual for this awesome party, but we do still have some tables available around 8:00-8:30 pm. Call down to book yourself in! Or drop in to the bar for a few cocktails with Tony Nardi, Susan Durrwachter and our ‘tender Hayley Groulx, and leave your generous tips for the bar crew.

As happens every year, a roster of local celebrities will be paired with our experienced staff out front to wait tables, tend bar and earn “tips” which all benefit the Conservancy…and hijinks will ensue. Help boost your favorite server’s earnings by leaving a particularly generous tip, and s/he will win bragging rights for the year to come if they’re at the top of the contribution pool. And, of course, all those generous tips go directly to the NCPA Conservancy to fund their excellent work in our local community! This year’s guest staff include: Patty Confer, Chip Edmonds, Peachie O’Connor, Dr. Michael Reed, Dr. Christina Steinbacher, Jordan Sheffer, Daria Fish and, of course, Tony and Susan on the bar. We’re looking forward to a fun night on Friday. Thanks to all the local folks who make this event possible and help raise funds for the Conservancy!

P.S. Thanks to everyone who came out and supported our guest chefs during March, and helped raise money for Thrive International Programs. We’ll be sending Thrive a check for $1300 today, thanks to your dining!

P.P.S. If you’re looking for a spot to celebrate Easter, look no further than our House! We’ll be open and serving dinner on Easter from 11:30 am-2:00 pm, with a limited regular dining menu, as well as some classic Easter features: asparagus soup with lump crabmeat, roasted ham from Misty Mountain Farm, grilled rack of lamb with housemade mint jelly, and, of course, peanut butter torte, for all those folks who gave up sweets for Lent. Call down to book a table, because things tend to fill up fast!
