This Week at the Herdic House
A house (and crowd) favorite for tonight’s Buck Moon Blue Plate. Join us for organic fettuccine from Pasta by Deb, tossed with crisp bacon from Misty Mountain Farm and a sweet corn, basil and roasted tomato cream. It’s $15 at the House and $17 to go…
And tomorrow, our Happy Hours continue! Join us from 5-7 pm on Thursday evenings at the bar for some cocktail specials—$2 off wines by the glass, $1 off beers by the bottle and a rotating $9 craft cocktail, plus we’ll be making classic Pittsburgh-style salads, with housemade ranch dressing, crisp seasonal veggies, Yukon Gold fries. grated cheddar and grilled tenderloin tips… And this week’s cocktail will be a local sweet cherry margarita with a salted chipotle rim…
We’re sharing an oldie but goodie photo this morning (shot by our wonderfully kind and very talented friend Rick Mason) to introduce the peak of one of Daisy’s favorite fruits: blueberries! These delicate blue orbs are likely to turn us blue too over the next week or two, as the Herdic staff finds them nearly irresistible—and who can blame them? Blueberries aren’t just delicious, they’re also excellent for you, and they’re comfortable in any number of dishes, both sweet and savory.
They can be pickled, sautéed, frittered, pied, sconed, you name it…but our favorite method of consumption is, naturally, by the handful. The twins and Daisy were glorying in handfuls of berries just this past weekend, when we went berry picking at Bridge Avenue Berries in Allentown. And Harry from Bridge Avenue has supplied us with the berries for this Friday’s menu as well—they’re wonderful folks with a beautiful location, and we’d encourage checking them out!
But either way, join us this Friday as we get the blues, with a blueberry menu chock full of antioxidants and general deliciousness. There are blues of all sorts hovering about these days, but we’ll take blueberries over any other type, any day. And don’t be afraid to ask for a cupful of blueberries, naked and unadorned. No matter how we dress them up, we know nothing quite compares to the pure and simple treatment…
- Fresh blueberry mojito
- Chilled blueberry soup with a honey-orange creme fraiche
- Sweet pickled blueberry and frisée salad, with black raspberry vinaigrette and burrata
- Grilled bone-in Misty Mountain Farm pork chop with grilled sweet corn grits, blueberry barbecue and wilted spinach
- Blueberry-almond crisp with a scoop of housemade lemon curd ice cream
- And just for the hell of it, blueberry-bergamot ice cream as well…
