This Week at the Herdic House

We hear that the warm weather will be coming in earnest by this weekend, and that it may officially be here to stay (about time, given the rapid approach of Memorial Day), but that doesn’t help us out tonight! (It’s been great for our local amphibians, however.) But, since we’re getting our porches painted this week at the Herdic, today’s chilly weather might work well as part of our grand plan—we’ll be seating on the porch and patio as the weather improves later this week, but for tonight, it’s best to let this coat of paint cure!

But just because the porch is out of commission, that doesn’t mean the show won’t go on: we’ll have an excellent Blue Plate ready to rock today at 5:00 pm—but you might want to call for a reservation, because the House is looking pretty busy already! This evening, we’ll be serving a classic taco salad, with Misty Mountain ground beef, local lettuce, grated pepper jack, simmered red beans, salsa casera and lime crema. The Blue Plate, as always, is $18 at our House and $20 to go. You can reach us at 570-322-0165 to book a table! We’ll also have cream of asparagus soup with crispy prosciutto and scallion, as well as local tomato and fresh mozzarella caprese…

Come join us for our Thursday happy hours at the bar, from 5-7 pm, with $1 off all beers and $2 off wines by the glass. Plus we’ll be serving tenderloin tip sandwiches this week, with caramelized onion, gruyere and horseradish mayo, and a side of our spiced up shoestring potatoes. Start your meal with a strawberry-rhubarb gin collins from the bar to put a little spring in your step…

For the rest of the week, mum’s the word on our features. Our area is hosting not just one, but two big graduations this week, and our House is packed to the rafters with graduates and their families—but we can likely still squeeze you in if you call for a reservation. Congratulations to those lucky kids from Penn College and Bucknell on completing your studies! Be careful and have fun out there in the real world…

A reminder that we’ll be closed next Saturday, May 23, to host a memorial for Jude Elion: musician, educator, preserver of Honda Civics and much-missed member of the Herdic family. The event will take place from 2-5 pm, and all friends of Jude are welcome. Then coming up in just over two weeks on May 29, we’ll have our Herdic shad smoke. Tables are already filling up fast, so call to make your reservations!
