This Week at the Herdic House
Some nights we need a little Flash around the Herdic! Wednesdays are a crazy night around these parts. But we’re in the throes of prepping tonight’s Blue Plate already, and we’re madly excited, since it’s just the tiniest bit Asian for once… A Korean rice bowl with pulled bossam pork from Misty Mountain Farm, ginger-marinated eggplant, sesame-seared sweet peppers and kimchi-edamame salad. It’s $18 at our House, and $20 to go, like always—but, per usual, our number of to-go orders will be very limited.
Come join us for our Thursday happy hours at the bar, from 5-7 pm, with $1 off all beers and $2 off wines by the glass. Plus we’ll be serving our Thursday night feature that feigns healthiness, all while loaded with the tangy umami of ranch dressing: house favorite Herdic Pittsburgh salad, this week served with grilled harissa-marinated tenderloin, fresh-cut fries, grated cheddar and parmesan ranch. Plus, Andrew will have vodka-laced watermelon agua fresca at the bar at the bar…
And if you hadn’t guessed from the lateness of this week’s email blast, your correspondent is officially back on American soil, with bread in the oven, produce deliveries stacked to the rafters to be put away, and childcare arrangements to be made. It was nice to get away while it lasted!
Because we’ve got a busy week ahead of us this week, we won’t be posting an official set of features for Friday evening…but look forward to some delicious and unusual Magness pears and sweet, almost tropical paw-paws cropping up in the menu–our friends from Tewksbury-Grace Farm have been truly generous this season!
Since we’re not touting Friday night features, we figured we’d take the opportunity to herald another event we’ve got coming up–one for which tickets go on sale beginning today! When we hosted our 40th anniversary party last year, we intended it as a one and done–a gala event to celebrate a gala occasion. But much to our surprise, the attendees almost immediately started asking us when the next party would be.
It was a hard decision to throw another fabulous party (we’re introverts around here…not), but we finally decided that maybe we should do it again, just once more, before we fade into the humdrum existence of our forties. And when 2025 turned out to be the hundredth anniversary of the publication of the Great Gatsby, we knew we’d made a wise choice.
We’ve spent the past couple months making sure that Fats Walter and the Susquehanna Boom Rats could fit us into their busy schedule, rereading the Great Gatsby to remind ourselves just why it is still so very relevant, and dreaming up a decadent soiree befitting the swank and oblivious lifestyle Gatsby and his entourage led. And we think you should join us for an awesome event dripping baubles, swimming in champagne and fairly oozing with the sounds of jazz: A fete for Beautiful Fools, Friday, October 17, beginning at 7:00 pm.
