This Week at the Herdic House

Oof—well, we fished our wish with ample sunshine this week, but unfortunately it’s so hot in that sunshine that you could fry an egg! We’re happy to have missed the worst of this little heatwave while we were closed on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, but it’s another hot one tonight, folks. So we’re going with a simple, fresh Blue Plate that’ll be easy on the kitchen and delightful on the palate: a zucchini, roasted tomato and ricotta lasagne, topped with lemony baby arugula from Borderless Flavor. It’s $18 at our House, and $20 to go, like always—but, per usual, our number of to-go orders will be very limited. And our soup this evening will be Hunter’s choice—Liz and the kids escaped to Cape Cod for a few days this week, and won’t return until tomorrow, so Hunter, Andrew and Sam will be doing the heavy (and HOT) lifting in the kitchen this evening…
Come join us for our Thursday happy hours at the bar, from 5-7 pm, with $1 off all beers and $2 off wines by the glass. Plus we’ll be serving our Thursday night feature that pretends to be healthy, all while loaded with the tangy umami of ranch dressing: house favorite Herdic Pittsburgh salad, this week served with seared sea scallops, fresh-cut fries, grated cheddar and parmesan ranch. Plus, Hannah will be shaking up sweet cherry bourbon smashes at the bar…

Well, there was a minute in late May when we thought we might have a tough time filling up our Paella Fiesta this Friday, but that moment quickly ended…and now we’ve been sold out of spots for the past ten days! We’re excited for the sangria, the open flames, the camaraderie and especially some of the tapas…plus those piping hot pans of paella that stretch more than two feet across—talk about a pan that really makes the party!

But that said, we currently are fully booked for Friday, so we’re also looking forward to our next summer event—the reading of the Declaration of Independence next Thursday evening, when we’ll be grilling up Misty Mountain Farm cheeseburgers on housemade buns, and enjoying the dulcet tones of our surprise readers for the evening. Not to mention our delicioso Tuscan picnic on July 18 including a wine tasting from F. Magnotta, for which Liz is hoping to score some delicious porchetta roasts. And we encourage everyone looking to book a table for our Victorian Garden Tea on August 16 to call down for a reservation—tables are already filling up fast! Seatings will be at 1:00 and 2:30 this year, and Liz is working on a tasty menu of seasonal delights…

…but for now, Liz is off to enjoy one last sunny morning at the beach. Stay safe and stay cool, y’all, and we’ll hope to see you this week!
