It doesn’t get any better than this, this week at the Herdic House

This Week at the Herdic House

Lest anyone get excited and think that our schedule is finally back to normal—hold your horses! We have one more week of disrupted routines, and then we’re back to Wednesday Blue Plates for a bit. So you’ll have to wait until tomorrow (Thursday) for the Blue Plate this week, delicious as it is: a Misty Mountain sausage, ratatouille and basil pesto lasagne.  As always, the Blue Plate will be $18 at our House and $20 to go, and is available on a first-come, first-served basis. You can reach us at 570.322.0165 to book a table. In addition to the Blue Plate tomorrow, we’ll be serving a broccoli-cheddar soup and our favorite tempura battered oyster mushrooms with remoulade, plus Liz is baking off apple crisp for dessert.

But next Wednesday, the Blue Plate is officially back! If only we could claim to know what on earth it might be…

Well, given the rather spectacular weather we’ve had these past few weeks, Liz has continued to drag her kids out on hikes across the region (even though they’re sometimes reluctant hikers at best), and the leaves on our doorstep continue to dazzle. We certainly hope you’ve made it out into the woods as well! And it’s not just the leaves that have been striking this season—we’ve had the benefit of lots of great produce lingering into late October, and despite the vicious rumors we were spreading last week, our nasturtiums and our marigolds made it through frost and flourish on. This incredible season can’t last forever…but it can linger long enough to remind that we often live in one of the most beautiful places on the planet. (It’s easy to forget that day-to-day, which is why getting out in the autumn sunshine is so very important.)

We haven’t quite pinned down our Friday evening menu just yet, but we have some halibut arriving from Helmrich’s that we’re thinking would pair very well with a simple hubbard squash risotto, and Liz is planning a sweet pepper and shrimp bisque with some of the last of the season’s pepper harvest. Once we figure out an appetizer, we’ll have a menu fit for the…intrepid diners of Williamsport, per usual, which is our favorite audience. And of course, a little pear upside down cake should help complete your meal…unless you choose to sample our first ever batch of PB&J ice cream, which is garnering raves.

But we’d be remiss if we didn’t also mention the awesome event we’re putting together for next Friday evening, complete with lots of bourbon, seared Misty Mountain tomahawk steaks, pumpkin skull cakes, a little tarot reading, and some generally spooky vibes—curated by your favorite mad mixologist at the bar, Hannah Ramsauer, with help from our friend Mike at Oasis Liquors. Mike will be conducting a bourbon tasting in the lounge ($35 gets you tastes of 6 different unusual bourbons, and probably a complementary attitude adjustment to boot), plus Liv Stroud will be reading tarot in our alcove, and mischief will most surely abound, as we celebrate Mischief Night (the night before Halloween) in spooky style. Drop in to sample some bourbon or call down to book a table!
