And tomorrow, our Happy Hours continue! Join us from 5-7 pm on Thursday evenings at the bar for some cocktail specials—$2 off wines by the glass, $1 off beers by the bottle and a rotating $9 craft cocktail, plus we’ll be making classic Pittsburgh-style salads, with housemade ranch dressing, crisp seasonal veggies, Yukon Gold fries. grated cheddar and grilled tenderloin tips… And this week’s cocktail will be a Herdic vodka tonic, with Liz’s secret tonic tincture, Tito’s vodka and kaffir lime leaves …
Oh what is heaven but to live in Pennsylvania in June! This past week of long, leisurely, perfect days, filled with the passing perfumes of roses, peonies, honeysuckle, Kentucky coffee trees, is almost a moment out of time—it swirls around us in a monsoon of sunshine, replete with hazy dust motes, showers of flower petals and delightful shady respites.
But by far the best thing that June has brought us so far is the ruby-red wonder of fresh strawberries. We’ve been glorying in them since last Friday, but they’ll hit their peak this week and next, and we see no reason to delay creating a menu devoted to this lovely and ephemeral berry—we never can tell what the future holds, and strawberries are here in the now. Join us Friday for a little strawberry fest, as we do our berry best to make the most of the season…
- Chilled strawberry soup with fresh ginger, mint and housemade yogurt
- Baby greens and rose petals, tossed in a grand marnier vinaigrette with fresh strawberries, chevre and prosciutto
- Crispy red snapper with an avocado-cucumber salsa, spicy strawberry gastrique, marinated pac choi and simple basmati
- Strawberry rose petal ice cream with lavender shortbread cookies
