This Week at the Herdic House
You’ll forgive us if we return to the Italian side of our culinary heritage for a second Italian-inspired Blue Plate in a row, but when the world gives you tomatoes, of course, Italian is one of the first cuisines to come to mind (and yes, we know that tomatoes are actually native to the Americas, and that that rascal Columbus was the first person to take tomatoes from the New World back to Old—and that the items he brought to the New World in trade weren’t nearly so delightful. But we digress…)
We have a surfeit of tomatoes and sweet corn at the Herdic this week, so we’re cooking up one of our tried and true Blues: a roasted tomato, sweet corn, wild mushroom and pesto lasagne, so good you’ll never guess it’s vegetarian! The Blue Plate, as always, is $18 at our House and $20 to go, and you can reach us at 570-322-0165 to book a table! We’ll have shrimp and tarragon bisque for our soup and fresh Fossil Springs cantaloupe with prosciutto di Parma as our appetizer…
Come join us for our Thursday happy hours at the bar, from 5-7 pm, with $1 off all beers and $2 off wines by the glass. Plus we’re making those classic Herdic tenderloin sandwiches, open-faced with gruyere, caramelized onions and horseradish dill mayonnaise. But be forewarned: a large party in our main dining room and our lounge means that we’ll only have tables available at the bar and on the patio—and we’ve got no tables at all around 6:00 pm!
And the big news this week is that Liz and Glory are headed off on an adventure—they leave this afternoon to spend the week in Copenhagen! Yes, the picture above is a photo we lifted from the internet, but this time next week, it could well be a picture of Liz, meditating on Scandinavian food and men, and what she’s leaving behind. (Yes, we all know her clothes would be a twee bit tighter, but otherwise…) Stay tuned for updates on the incredible food (smorrebrod, anyone?), drink and architecture they encounter (featuring lots of letters that don’t even exist on American keyboards), anticipate a Danish menu of some sort over the next few weeks, and please stop down to the Herd to keep Hannah company at the bar in their absence. After all, we’ve gotten our hands on a precious few peaches, and Sam, Hunter and Andrew will be cooking up some stone fruit features on Friday night…
