This Week at the Herdic House

We’re heading to North Africa with tonight’s Blue Plate, on this hot, hot evening. Join us for roasted zucchini stuffed with Walnut Run Farm lamb, chickpeas and herbs, served over babaganoush and basmati rice. It’s $15 at the House and $17 to go. We’re taking limited reservations to try to go easy on the kitchen in the heat, so call to book your table…

And tomorrow, our Happy Hours continue! Join us from 5-7 pm on Thursday evenings at the bar for some cocktail specials—$2 off wines by the glass, $1 off beers by the bottle and a rotating $9 craft cocktail, plus we’ll be making classic Pittsburgh-style salads, with housemade ranch dressing, crisp seasonal veggies, Yukon Gold fries. grated cheddar and grilled tenderloin tips… And this week’s cocktail will be a cantaloupe and ginger margarita…
This week’s Friday night menu is more than just a list of specials—it’s a fabulous event, complete with hors d’oeuvres, dinner, dessert, dancing and, naturally, a birthday. We still have a few spots left for Hemingway’s Birthday Bash this Friday evening at 6:00—call down soon to book your reservation! Every year we celebrate the late great Ernest Hemingway’s birthday with a Cuban dinner (and ample Hemingway-approved cocktails), but this year we’ve partnered with a great organization to raise funds for an excellent cause—Thrive International!

The evening will start at 6:00 with passed hors d’oeuvres, segue into dinner about 7:00, and wrap up with a dessert buffet and a Cuban dance party on the patio. The cost per ticket is $65, with all profits going to Thrive, our region’s organization which helps immigrants from all over the world integrate into our communities, learn English and settle into new lives. And our menu has been curated by Rosa and Angelina, Thrive students who hail from Cuba—they’ll be helping with the cooking, and then moving out to the dance floor, where they have some serious moves. Our prix fixe menu will be…

  • Housemade beef picadillo empanadas
  • Mini medianoches: little Cuban sandwiches on housemade brioche
  • Crispy chicken skin with olive salsa

  • Cuban salad with tomatoes, cabbage, sweet corn, carrots and lime vinaigrette
  • Lechon asado: roasted citrus-marinated pork from Leona Meats
  • Moros y cristianos: Cuban-style rice and beans
  • Tostones

  • Flan
  • Dulce de papaya y cerezas: housemade candied papaya and sweet cherries
  • Torticas de Moron

Plus, we’ll be selling a whole host of different cocktails, from Hemingway Daquiris to Death in the Afternoons to, of course, mojitos—all to help encourage plenty of dancing. We’re looking forward to an excellent party on Friday!
