This Week at the Herdic House
A classic summer pasta tonight for the Blue Plate, indicative of being inundated with summer in all forms: organic fettuccine tossed in a chablis cream with roasted Landis chicken, roasted tomato, sweet corn and basil. It’s $18 at our House, and $20 to go, like always—but, per usual, our number of to-go orders will be very limited. For those looking for lighter fare, we’ll be featuring a chilled cantaloupe soup with balsamic-macerated blackberries and watermelon, heirloom tomato and feta salad with lime-mint vinaigrette…
Come join us for our Thursday happy hours at the bar, from 5-7 pm, with $1 off all beers and $2 off wines by the glass. Plus we’ll be serving our Thursday night feature that feigns healthiness, all while loaded with the tangy umami of ranch dressing: house favorite Herdic Pittsburgh salad, this week served with chimichurri tenderloin tips, fresh-cut fries, grated cheddar and parmesan ranch. Plus, Hannah will have vodka-laced watermelon agua fresca at the bar at the bar…
We’ve never been ones to get too invested in ball games here at the Herdic House (we say, batting our eyelashes), but it’s hard not to catch a bit of the ball fever when Little League’s in town—especially with a handful of little ones running around the House most of the time. So last night found Liz and the kids in the parade, with Daisy in particular flushed with the exertion of handing out buckets and buckets of candy to all and sundry. (Check them all out on the left side of the photo above, courtesy of Hannah.) It was a hot and sultry parade night, but nonetheless lovely, and we’ll be delighted to see all the new folks, from all over the world, that these games bring to our city. We won’t see terribly many of them at the Herdic House—we’re a bit off the beaten path for the Little League crowd—but Williamsport feels decidedly international during these two weeks, and for those of us who seldom escape our little vacuum valley, it’s a welcome change of scene.
However, because the Herdic doesn’t see a lot of Little League business, we’ll remind you this week that we’re here for YOU—our loyal customers, our frequent flyers, the folks looking to escape the baseball crush, and we’ll be serving leisurely dinners tonight through Saturday, if you’d like to come join us!
That said, we won’t be publicizing any features for later this week. While we may not be crowded with ball tourism, we have our own busy-ness this week, primarily on Saturday afternoon, when we’ll host our nearly sold out Victorian Garden Tea. And at the tea we’ll be hosting a very special guest artist: the artful Miss Holiday, who will be decorating our mantelpieces with garden-themed displays. If you haven’t had an opportunity to check her work out, this weekend will be an excellent time to see her designs and perhaps even meet her in person…

We’re repeating our shameless plug for a cool event happening in our region’s hinterlands—one which would be an excellent follow-up to our nearly sold out Victorian Tea on August 16—the Eagles Mere Museum is hosting a cottage tours of ten early Eagles Mere cottages from 1-4 pm on August 17. If you’ve never been, Eagles Mere has a truly glorious stash of Victorian and turn-of-the-century cottages, set idyllically around a forested lake—and this is an excellent opportunity to get a peak inside some of these beautiful old places.
