This Week at the Herdic House

You read a-rightly last week—the Herdic House will be closed tonight (Wednesday) for a handful of private events, and consequently we’ve moved our Blue Plate Special to tomorrow evening, Thursday, Oct. 3, beginning at 5:00. But it’s shaping up to be a great one! Misty Mountain beef brisket and sweet pepper enchiladas, roasted with salsa verde and served over black beans. Starting Thursday, the Blue Plate will be $18 at our House and $20 to go (but our number of to-go orders is always very limited). We’ll hope to see you out!

And note: beginning this week, we’re swamped with bus tours over the next few weeks (leaf peepers, what?) That deluge of buses means that we’ll be shifting our Blue Plate Specials to Thursday nights for the first three weeks in October. So we’ll see you for a delicious Blue Plate Special on October 3, 10 and 17—then back to Wednesdays we go!

At long last another glorious (if maybe somewhat dampish) autumn rolls around, and with it a gleefully colorful show of works by larger-than-life local artist Nella Storm. Our thoughts always turn to Nella as the leaves start to change—and to her remarkable paintings of our region that brim with color and life. We’re excited to welcome her back to our lounge this First Friday, and to have the vibrant company of her works as the year starts to darken into winter.

In honor of her work, we’ve concocted a First Friday menu of features that’s fairly brimming with local flavor and color itself, as we make the most of our rapidly vanishing herb garden, and the gorgeous orange turmeric Hickory Run Homestead is growing, and all those other flavors and textures (last of the season corn! lima beans!) that just pulse with the thrill of the harvest season. Join us as we revel in what’s forecasted to be a beautiful autumn weekend, and the pleasure that is a lovely October Friday in Williamsport…followed by spectacular hiking in Sunday’s sunshine. At least, you’d be wise to follow our lead and get thee to the forest—not everyone is lucky enough to live in Central PA in October, after all…

  • Poached pear margarita with candied local ginger
  • Local mushroom, potato and fresh turmeric bisque
  • Pan-seared sea scallops perched on autumn succotash and finished with crispy prosciutto and a tarragon beurre blanc
  • Lamb loin chops from Misty Mountain Farm, grilled and served over garlicky escarole and crispy potatoes with a roasted tomato and thyme butter
  • Liz’s apple streusel pie with a scoop of homemade vanilla ice cream

And a quick mention that ticket sales are now open for our November 16 anniversary gala! Tickets are $85, and include a champagne tasting, caviar, ample and delectable hors d’oeuvres stations and live music. Call 570.322.0165 or email or, you know, stop on in to the bar to purchase tickets…
