This Week at the Herdic House

Purely delicious for this week’s Blue Plate, folks: organic fettuccine with Leona Meats pork meatballs, roasted sweet peppers and a local tomato cream sauce. It’s $15 at the House and $17 to go…

And tomorrow, our Happy Hours continue! Join us from 5-7 pm on Thursday evenings at the bar for some cocktail specials—$2 off wines by the glass, $1 off beers by the bottle and a rotating $9 craft cocktail, plus we’ll be making classic Pittsburgh-style salads, with housemade ranch dressing, crisp seasonal veggies, Yukon Gold fries. grated cheddar and grilled tenderloin tips… And this week’s cocktail will be a watermelon cosmo with pureed watermelon, Tito’s vodka, lime and agave…

And come Friday evening (First Friday, you say? Hip-hip hooray!) the big news at the Herdic House is a visit from the wild and whimsical Elli Groninger, who will be festooning our lounge, bar and patio with copious items from her collection of fantastical metalwork (see above). Elli only drops in to see us once a year, and it might just be our favorite time of the year ever—for 30 days we become foster parents to a whole host of brightly colored gnomes, fairies, and wild animals, and while they’re not that cuddly, they’re surely cute as a button.

This year, we’ll also be hosting a private party on the patio on Friday evening starting at 6:45, so we’re skipping a menu of features for Friday—but Elli’s art (and our delicious food) is enough reason to come check out the Herd! That said, we will be serving up a cocktail that we created in her honor, once upon a time—the delectable, the colorful Where The Wild Things Are, with smashed plum, lemongrass, nasturtium and a host of other delicious ingredients known only to Hannah.

And please come back down next Friday too, when Liz is putting together a golden Harvest Moon menu to match the beautiful hues of early autumn…
