This may sound corny, but… this week at the Herdic House

This Week at the Herdic House

What?! you might be thinking: Liz and Glory spend the past week traveling in Denmark, and we don’t even get a Danish Blue Plate out of the deal? But here’s the thing: we ate a lot of delicious food in Copenhagen, but we’re gonna need a bit of time to (for lack of a better term) digest the experience before we think about trying to recreate some portion of it. Because, believe me, if you’d tried those cardamom buns, you’d know it was going to take a while to learn how to make them.
Consequently, this week’s Blue Plate was suggested by some friends of Liz’s, after she made ratatouille a few weeks ago. “You know what?” they said. “This is almost like this delicious Spanish dish. Have you ever had it?”

And we hadn’t, until now…but this week we have all the ingredients to make some delectable and local Pisto Manchego for you: simmered summer veggies, like zucchini, peppers, eggplant and tomatoes, spiced with a little smoked paprika and shaved manchego cheese, then topped with a fried farm egg and fresh herbs. Doesn’t get much fresher than that! The Blue Plate, as always, is $18 at our House and $20 to go, and you can reach us at 570-322-0165 to book a table! We’ll have heirloom tomatoes and mozzarella for an appetizer and local berries and creme anglaise for dessert…

Come join us for our Thursday happy hours at the bar, from 5-7 pm, with $1 off all beers and $2 off wines by the glass. Plus we’re making more of those classic Herdic tenderloin sandwiches, open-faced with gruyere, caramelized onions and horseradish dill mayonnaise.

We’re incredibly excited to host Anthony Ferro this month as our artist, and to host his opening reception this Friday evening from 6-7:30 pm! Based in NYC and Muncy Valley, PA, Anthony Ferro is known internationally as a dancer and visual artist. Following an extensive career as a performer on stage and film and a university professorship, he turned his attention to painting in 2005. His work has been presented in solo and group shows in New York and Pennsylvania as well as in many private collections in the US, Europe, and Asia. His gallery and studio, aferro.art, located in the historical village of Eagles Mere, PA, opened in 2022.

But in addition to being a very talented artist, Anthony is simply a delightful human, and we’re very excited to get to spend an evening with him this Friday—and you should stop down too! Especially because, on top of hosting an absolutely fantastic art show this Friday, we’ll also be serving up a sweet corn menu, including that sweet corn ice cream that so many folks have been asking us about. Corny but true, folks, that Friday night at the Herdic will be a win-win…

  • Creamy sweet corn soup with tomato-basil salsa and crispy bacon
  • Indonesian-style corn fritters with a chili-tomato sauce
  • Pan-seared Atlantic halibut served over potato-zucchini anna and corn cream, with a sweet corn and white peach salsa,
  • Blueberry crisp, served warm with a scoop of housemade sweet corn ice cream (or, if you’ve been requesting it, simple sweet corn ice cream with local berry coulis)

But please don’t stop into the Herdic on Saturday evening this week! We’ll be closed for a small wedding, and we’re looking forward to helping the happy couple celebrate their nuptials. See you Wednesday! And we promise next Wednesday, we’ll have the email for you that extols the delights of Danish biking (designated bike traffic lights, designated bike lanes, designated bike parking, oh we could go on…). But for today, we just need to get this sucker out into the world!
