This Week at the Herdic House
Well, one of the more important announcements today is that there will be NO Blue Plate this evening—it’s been postponed until tomorrow night, July 16, due to a large group dining in our main dining room (and 100 degree temperatures making our patio pretty unappealing). So this evening, July 15, we’ll just be serving our regular dining menu plus some excellent features!
But tomorrow evening, the Blue Plate will rise again, with a special feature by request (and because it was darn well time): roasted haddock tacos with black beans, spicy slaw, lime crema, and a sweet corn and tomato pico de gallo. Sara Herzenberg, congratulations on your many recent changes in life, but most especially on completing yet another trip around the sun. Happy birthday! The Blue Plate, as always, is $18 at our House and $20 to go, and you can reach us at 570-322-0165 to book a table! We’ll have a cream of local shiitake mushroom soup with crispy prosciutto and fried green tomatoes as an appetizer, just in case fish tacos aren’t your thang
…and we’ll mention here too that, on the week of July 29, there will be NO Blue Plate whatsoever. Too many parties and not enough space, folks…
But the real fête this week is on Friday evening, when we’ll be belatedly celebrating Bastille Day with some provençal dishes truly fit for the gods (or at least some very lucky mortals). We watched last night as France got trounced by Spain in the Round of 4 at the World Cup on the actual Bastille Day (ouch), but it hasn’t dimmed our ardor for delicious French food even un morceau.
We’re very excited indeed to be cooking up bouillabaisse for the first time, not to mention the tempting oysters, the pissaladiere and perhaps most intriguingly, the blueberry clafoutis with fresh and juicy berries from Bridge Avenue Berries. (Honestly, it’s making us hungry even now.) But we’ve modified our procedure for this special menu just a bit—the menu will be available prix fixe throughout the evening, instead of being staged at one sitting. So make your reservations as you choose, and enjoy a menu magnifique on Friday evening, resplendent with the flavors of the south of France, brought right here to you in central Pennsylvania, courtesy of our talented farmers…
